About
Ms. Phuc - Ms. Nguyen
Before 1975, the Ngo Gia Tu apartment building was built by the United States and the South Vietnamese government at the time to provide housing for residents who had lost their homes during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War…
Starting from a small roadside chè stall on Su Van Hanh Street, Mrs. Phuc and her husband soon built a life at the Ngo Gia Tu apartment building, raising their five children through her skillful hands and hard work. Among the dishes she prepared for wedding banquets, her rich yet gently sweet bò kho gradually became a beloved flavor among many people.
Growing up in the heart of Cholon, Ms. Nguyen – the eldest daughter of Ms. Phuc – inherited her mother's passion and cooking secrets, while also incorporating the refined flavors of Chinese cuisine to preserve the traditional Saigon beef stew.
From there, Bo Kho Ganh was born, bringing the traditional flavors of Saigon before 1975 to diners both domestically and internationally. Word spread, and the family-inherited beef stew gradually became famous, even appearing on international television programs. Bo Kho Ganh is also the only restaurant selling beef stew to be awarded the MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand title for three consecutive years, 2024, 2025, and 2026 – recognizing places with delicious food at reasonable prices in Vietnam.
Bo Kho Ganh – two generations preserving a flavor, a memory, and a source of pride for the people of Saigon.
